Old Cabin Air Filter

So I just took out my old cabin air filter. I was a bit surprised with it's condition. I was expecting it to be dirty...but not to be mangled.

That happened to me with an STP cabin air filter.
That also happens when the filter is forced in.
I now use Fram as they have stiffer sides.

I looked inside the filter housing...and there is hard plastic inside that appears to be what's causing the mangled mess. Unless whoever put the last one in didn't go upwards with the filter.

That's why it's so clean. it wasn't working right.

I had that happen on a cheapie filter also.

When installing a new filter you can feel that plastic intrusion.
That tells you it is not being installed correctly.
As you said Ronnie the filter has to be installed with care and precision.

Hopefully I got the new one in without incident. I don't want to remove it to check!

Check it again in 2 or 3 years, lol.
that mangled filter could be the reason your AC drain is clogged up

Most likely.
You can remove the plastic cowl cover to both check the install of the filter and clean out the leaves.
And you can bet there is a bunch in there.
The cowl cover does not seal very tight.

I did that last weekend when I put in the new butyl patch.
