replacing sway bar links
#61
I just replaced mine last week. Ordered the Moog 12", pulled the first wheel off, and found the 10" on mine. So, I put the wheel back on, ordered the 10", and returned the 12".
The old ones did not have a backing nut, so I had to grab and hold with vice grips-pain in the butt-they kept slipping. Also, while I was putting the zerks on the new one, the tension bar moved up, so the new one was about 2" too long. I had to get a pry bar to pull/pry the tension bar down so the new link would fit.
Anyway, that annoying THUMP, THUMP, THUMP is gone!

I don't understand. Sounds like you jacked one side up at a time, so there was a load on only one side. I hope that you did not actually succeed in bending the sway bar, which is what I think you mean by "tension bar" .

Finding this thread interesting. I have one of the first HHR's put out (purchased in October of 2005) and the sway bar links were replaced at less than 20,000 miles. I have to replace them now, but granted I have over 80,000 miles on it.
