Is it safe to switch to full synthetic with high mileage?

After my change to Mobile 1 And the major leaks that developed I changed back to Dino oil and I have driven from Florida to Tennessee and back and about 200 miles local and have not lost any oil at all. I will stick with the old dino myself after that experience.

I started using Valvoline Max Life Blend 5W-30W at about 90,000 miles. I didn't have any leaks then and still leak free at 112000. I was considering going to straight synthetic Max Life next time. They have an engine guarantee of some sort. I'll check that out and find out what the program really is and report back.

Old wisdom, which at my age I subscribe to, says if you are going to run synthetic, do it within the first 20,000 miles or so, otherwise leave well enough alone and keep running dyno oil. I have run synthetic oil in every car I have owned since the late 70's, but always switched by the third oil change.

If it's leaking Dino oil, it will most likely bleed out Synthetic oil. I was fortunate with the HHR I bought it at 34,000 miles and the service records showed the Original previous owner has used nothing but synthetic

Started uisng M1 with the first oil change, almost 10 years later not one single leak.
If you want to try it in an older engine, go for it. It will either be good or not. Just be prepared if it's not. But it won't hurt anything.

Gee, the Old Man Memory I subscribe to says "switch to Mobil1 and never change your oil again".
It didn't take long for the marketing guys to find the flaw.
I suspect that's where most of the switching myths come from. Many folks have trouble parsing sentences.

Not that I believe in that "myth" to begin with and never have, but I asked an XOM rep anyway and his reply was lengthy. The gist of it was to change to M1 and change it quickly at 3k or so, as it will begin removing what conventional oil cant. Then add M1 again and change at regular intervals, which for me is 5k.
My family is religious M1 users, and I would have been too if I wasnt short on cash because of school the past 5 years. None of our cars have ever had oil related issues.
