Is it safe to switch to full synthetic with high mileage?

Rotella comes in a blue bottle T6 5w40 full synthetic version that I've used in various mileage and era VW and Subaru gas 4 cylinders without any problems for a number of years. You can find it at Walmart or Tractor Supply. There is a T5 blend version and the usual white bottle 15w40 dino version.
I've never been crazy about 5w30 oils and the only 5w40's are usually only diesel formulations (similar to 15w40 dino oil).
I did know that Dexos was a GM certification rather than a brand, i did some research when I bought the Cruze turbo.
Thanks for the replies.

I have a 2007 HHR LT, I have used Valvoline Max Life full Synthetic Oil, and have since I purchased it at 64,000 miles, and have had NO consumption issues. If you use a synthetic media oil filter(Fram XG9018) You can go by you oil life monitor( I change mine when I get to 10% or less) Hope this helps, and by the way, the Valvoline full synthetics are actually rated higher in several categories over Mobil 1. I did my homework

Actually, I didn't, which is why I asked.
I rarely opened the hood when mom had the car because the dealer took care of it. I could well be wrong but I didn't recall seeing it on the oil filler cap like it was on the 2011 Malibu and the 2014 Cruze. With the HR being a 2008 I wasn't sure if it was recommended.
I had never heard of Dexos before we got the Malibu and that was my first new GM car since an S-10 back in 1995.
I just found all of the paperwork and manuals for the car when going through mom's things so I can check the manuals. I also just got the car home late last night and after the funeral etc this weekend maybe I can dig a little deeper into everything.
Thanks

The Dexos specification didn't come into play until the 2011 model year. The spec for 2006-2010 was GM6094M for the 2.2 and 2.4, which was regular, non synthetic dyno oil. When the SS came out in 2008 the spec for it was GM4718M, which is synthetic. In 2011 the spec for all models became Dexos. Some of the brands that meet the Dexos spec are blends rather than full synthetic. The are an icredible number of oils that meet the spec.:
