You mean somebody else gets free tools from their dealer? Its been a while, but it has happened. Back when I lived in snow country my mechanic would give me a new "present" almost every time. Being the honest sort who knows how much MAC tools cost, I just dropped them off with a note like "roses and red. violets are blue, Nelson I think this ratchet belongs to you".

agreed. that business is a killer now. mechanics are really getting beaten up by flat rate. with the loss of tool truck level tools, they really had a bad day.

Ordered mine direct from Snap-on tools. Probably paid more than I should have, but I've always felt their tool quality is top notch.

I won't buy Snap-on anymore (not that I had that many of them) after having the chrome flaking off on the jaws of the wrenches. Been sticking to Craftsman pretty much - not the super best (not as good as they used to be), but great warranty, and commonly available everywhere.

Here in Can-A-DA we have a chain of stores called Canadian Tire - their high-end wrenches are beautifully finished and work fantastic - it's their "Mastercraft Maximum" line. I've bought several sets (Metric and SAE) and have found then to be very reasonably priced, and like I say, the finish on them is fantastic (and nary a flake of chrome falling off with several years of service).

Any tools I have found under the hood though, have been mine!!! LOL

I tell ya I have been having good luck and heard good things about Kobalt. Made in the same factory as Mac or Snap, with lifetime warranty at any Lowe's. Plus they really ARE more comfortable.

Talking

AmPro 'stubby socket' is fine for oil cainster.

But I'm eye-ball level deep in Craftsman tools. A few are still ones my Dad had & used...

Like Chevys' & Harleys, I likes my Craftsman tools too..

I too got one from my freindly Snap-On man. I think it was about $26 but I believe their quality is the best.

Oil Filter Cap Removal

I have a 2010 SS with the Ecotec 2.0L turbo. I use a 1-1/4" socket 1/2" drive), a 1/2"-3/8" adapter, a 12" extension (3/8" drive), & a 3/8" ratchet. What I do is put the adapter into the socket and then mount that onto the hex lug atop the oil filter cap. Then I take the 12" extension and insert it down from above then put the ratchet on and loosen the cap. Once the cap is sufficiently loosened that way, I remove the extension, then the socket & adapter and simply unscrew the cap/filter assembly by hand the rest of the way. It works great.
