Sorry Flex Pipe

Cool Sorry Flex Pipe

My flex pipe finally cracked. I have the 2008 HHR with 2.4 liter engine with auto trans. I did hear the hissing at first but I didn't worry about it. My question is I was considering replacing the whole cat and flex pipe assembly with a Magnaflow one. The number for the one I want is 49197 MagnaFlow® - Chevy HHR 2008 Direct Fit Federal OEM Grade Catalytic Converter The only problem is I'm not sure how long it will last because it doesn't have a flex pipe. I have been trying to decide to go with the magnaflow one or just go ahead and cut out the old and go with wielding in the new flex pipe. Guys, what are your thoughts on this?

Welcome to the site.

The picture in the link you posted shows one with the "mesh" flex pipe. It is still a flex pipe, just not the accordian style like the OEM one.

Be absolutely sure that you car was not built to California emissions standards, or it will not work. Be aware that the car will not be legal for sale in several states after you replace the cat with that part.

Doesn't look like you would save much money over buyig the OEM cat from GM, last I looked they were around $550. YMMV.

George I'm sorry I was actually looking at this one http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...BL._SY355_.jpg which is a option for the 2.4 liter engine. The one you mentioned is for the 2.0 liter engine.

Don the Magnaflow one I want is $384.50 on Carid. The cheapest I can get the GM OEM one is 751.68

look at TruBendz.com for down pipe and cat options. They range from $195. to $275. They build to order.

That one has a flex pipe, too.

Sorry, guys. I went ahead and ordered the magnaflow on Advanced Auto. I paid $272.41 for the magnaflow one. Came with gaskets. My bolts are rusted out and they didn't give me replacements. Where can I get some new ones? Or would the muffler shop have some of these?

Of the 5 bolts which do you mean? A GM dealer parts department is the obvious answer.

Sounds like you took advantage of the 20% discount, on eBay they are $384.
