Synthetic Oil

Syntec: Oil From The Gods
New user here, what a cool bunch of car junkies. I've owned eveything under the sun but have NEVER FALLEN for something like my '07 LT! Not my Superduties, not my Volvo Turbo's none of my other cars.
SO... I immediately changed out to Syntec pure synthetic. I have never trusted M1 but Chev obviously does. With Syntec my superduties all clicked over 200k with no turbo issues. My older Volvo turbo went to 175k after warranty turbo at 60k (when I sold it). My newer Volvo still has the original turbo at 150k.
The net result? Super fast "settling" after starting, gone are the minor annoying sounds associated with the first 15-30 seconds of running. At temp faster, way smoother acceleration over 60mph.
Good luck!

I haven't used Syntec since they substituted Group III base stock for Group IV, and not only continued to call it "pure synthetic," but didn't lower the price to adjust to their reduced cost of production. Mobil eventually followed suit, after unsuccessfully trying to have their "pure synthetic" handle revoked. There has been no love lost between BP Castrol and Exxon Mobil since, as Castrol Edge ads would tend to indicate.

i used cheap name brand synthetic before and no problems. it really depends on you how much you want to spend. example what is the difference between M1 and Pennzoil and Royal Purple? is it the cost? additives? popular name?

I stand corrected on M1 reverting to GRP III. I still like more ZDDP than current levels. As you knoe, it's an EP additive. It's still quite useful on contact areas of rocker arms in OHV roller cam motors and timing chain contact areas. I've been told residual ZDDP helps in cold/dry starts, but I don't really have verification of that.

As for syn oils Syntec is fine and M1 is the OE oil in many of the most expensive cars in the world. If they are ok for it to cover the warranty you can be sure it will be fine for a long life.
M1 had issues at the very start as did most syn oils but today there are little to any issues with any of them.

Amsoil user
I have used Amsoil for several years in all my cars and trucks. With the HHR and my wifes Malibu I use Amsoil and change the filter every 5,000 miles using the NAPA gold filter. I also drain the the oil every 20,000 miles. The oil is good to 25,000 so I feel it's ok doing this. I have a 1999 GMC 6.5 turbo diesel and have been doing this since new and have had no oil related problems and the truck has 205,000 miles on it the oil pressure hasn't dropped. My 08 HHR has 43,500 miles and uses no oil between changes.

I see no downside to using synthetic oil. I have used M1 for years in all kinds of cars and trucks. Some years ago we had an Acura, which was in service for a timing belt change at about 120,000 miles. When I picked the car up, the comment I got from the tech, was the inside of that engine was a clean as the day it was manufactured.
