Synthetic Oil

Generally the molecules in s syn oil are smaller and may leak on older engines. Front seal on Chevy Rear main on Pontiac etc.
Most older engines had leak prone places to start but the smaller molecules help it leak a little more in some cases.
It is usually not enough to hurt anything but can happen.
Most modern engines today are better sealed and this is no longer an issue on most new cars.

I got a $50 gift card from the Benz dealer after I bought the car from a small used car lot. I still have it, just for laffs- it would even cover half an oil change.
Oh- btw, it's a 93 190E I got for $2200 about 5 yrs ago. It was that or a Tempo. Wife's buying a 99 BMW 528 from one of her clients for $2400, it's a one owner car with 74,000 miles.

It is no different changing to syn vs buying a better shoes for a 40 year old.
The only issue some find are like a 2.5 Pontiav motor from 1984 that was prone to leak to start with may leak a little more. Nothing horrid but just a little mroe since the Syn oil will pass through smaller gaps that the old oil would not.
There are so many false things stated and misunderstood on olds mostly based on some truth from 30 years ago. Todays engines and oils have changed a lot of thing our dads and grand dads taught us years ago.
Today engines are rare to leak oil as they are mostly sealed up solid in most cases.

Synthetic vs Synthetic for High Mileage?
What about synthetic oils that claim to be for high mileage vehicles (75k+ miles)? Any feelings about those? My 2006 is about to roll passed 75k miles and it was mentioned I should switch from Mobil1 to Mobil1 for high mileage (75k+ miles) vehicles.

They offer less detergency, they won't clean your engine as well, and won't disturb varnish deposits.

i switched to synthetic at my first oil change 3600 miles i am now at 4700 and the car runs so smooth i cant tell its running MPG is up to 30/31 from 27/28. Probably just getting broken in more than the oil change though. Definetly did get smoother though.
