An HHR is just a car. It does not require any kind of special tire. I am running Primewell tires on mine. the car had Primewell's on it when we bought it. I went with 205/55/16. when we bought the car it had a tad under 150,000 miles. I replaced the tires at a tad over 180,000 miles.

There was still tread on most of them but I had replaced the inner and outer tie rod ends and hadn't bothered to have it realigned so the front tires wore on the inner edges more than the rest of the tire.

If your tire shop is trying to get you to pay for something else I'm pretty sure they are just trying to sell you something you really do not need.
