Tune Up - 2010 Chevy HHR LS
Pretty simple question. What all does is a tune up?
My car has been hesitating and Idleing as the mechanic called it. It has the most annoying noise and feels like the car is jerking. Mechanic at local Chevrolet dealer here in town said car is running great just needs tune up and spark plugs. Is this the reason why car jerks in the front end? will my car accelerate a lot better and quicker? I noticed that car is eating gas like crazy.
Has anyone else experienced the annoying jerking and hesitation?

Not enough info really. like how many miles? where's the noise coming from? etc
but yes sounds like a visit to the doctor. try search on the search button on this site and see if you find similar problems. Tune up on these cars are vey easy to do, if you have the time and tools.
Try and fix it yourself or to the doctor we go :)

Is the check engine light on? If so get the codes read.
For this issue you describe it could be dirty throttle body, MAF sensor.
But then again it could be a cracked flex pipe. That would throw a code.
It could be a lot of issues but start with engine size? Mileage? Do this happen cold only or after a short warm up?

If I had the knowledge and experience with cars to repair the problems indeed I would. 78,980 miles. December 2013 I had the throttle position sensor replaced. Yes the check engine light is on. When I took it to the local Chevy dealer they didn't say anything about the light shutting off just that a tune up was needed and new spark plugs would fix the hesitation after starting the vehicle. It only happens after I start up the car. It doesn't. Happen every time I start my car either. The check engine light comes on when it wants to. Sorry I do not know a lot about cars and terms of things. My car is very quiet so obviously when I hear to me a jerking humming noise coming from under the hood something is wrong. I was just wanting to know what all a tune up was? I've had the car 5 years this October bought it had 33,001 miles.

The term "Tune Up" is not really the correct term for modern day cars. If the local Chevy tech used those words, you may want to find a different shop to look at your car.
Back in the pre-electronic car era, a tune up would be plugs, points, condensor, wires etc. Adjust timing and carb.
Todays cars really only have plugs to change. Everything else is electronic and computer controlled and gets checked via the shops scanner (and a healthy scanner labor bill to boot)
A check engine light means that the cars system has detected a problem. You should have the cars computer codes pulled and deal with that first.

If the question is "has anybody experienced a poorly running car when the WARNING light is on" the answer is "yes".
The light means something is broken. The Computer will then tell the technician where to look.
There is a link or 2 in my Sig that will help you.

What exactly are the codes p0010 & p0011? I've looked them up but I still have no clue what exactly they are? The guy at Autozone didn't explain much of anything. he acted like it was a burden to help. What I did get out of him was that the camshaft position sensor is open. I want to know how does this affect me driving my car. How much is the repairs? I took to Chevy today and the codes did not pop up but my code reader and two different auto zones got the same codes. This is getting very frustrating and there is not another closer Chevy dealer to where I am at.
