Thanks to all for the info......if my 1 - 1/4" socket was a 1/4" shorter it would work but....at 1 - 3/4" it sits on an angle.
Just an update .....found it on Amazon.com $6.95

Just changed mine for this 1st time this morning. I used a stubby adjustable box wrench. Took my time and it came right off with no damage to the filter housing.
I reccomend everyone get some mecanic gloves for this engine. In the two weeks I've had this car I've cut my hands up more than any other car I've ever owned. There are countless razor sharp plastic edges all over the engine. Almost seems Chevy purposely filed them to carving knife sharpness. I could fillet a Walleye on the engine cover!

Greetings from the Buckeye State! This is my first posting. Wife bought a white 2009 2.4L HHR and this was also my first attempt at changing the oil on her car.
I would like to thank soman98 for his 7/17/06 posting of his HHR oil change procedure. Finding the oil filter socket was ther hardest task. I did find one at a local Advance Auto - cost around $12.00. It is made by Lisle Coporation out of Clarinda, Iowa and carries part # 14700 - "Oil filter socket for GM 2.2L". Is is essentially a low profile 1 1/4" or 32mm socket for a 3/8" drive.
I must say this is about the cleanest oil change I have ever performed. Didn't even get dirty removing the drain plug. I was somewhat skeptical at first of the oil filter cap and cartridge, but now after changing it I must admit an engineer finally got it right.

Wait 'till you try and change a headlight......what a joke...I put a set of silver stars in my 2010....never thought changing a headlight could turn into such a cluster.
Like I have said before.....these auto companies do as much as they can to make it all but impossible for you to do anything to YOUR car!
