Adding '49 emblems to HHR
#33
There's a huge aftermarket business for reproduction 47-54 Chevy truck parts. I buy a lot of stuff from several different vendors but prefer Classic Parts. HERE is the chrome one they sell. They also come in polished stainless. They also have the rubber gasket that goes between the ornament and the hood.

A couple of folks asked about the grill work on my HHR. For those who are interested, I used a hacksaw to cut the two bars out, cutting at an angle so as to minimize the holes. I then used a course file to clean up the cuts and then sanded everything smooth.
I put regular green tape (painters tape) behind the cuts, to keep the epoxy from flowing through the hole. I used Duramix 4040 plastic repair epoxy. Comes in a twin tube so mixing is easy (equal parts).
After hardening, sand and form just like solid plastic. Smooth with sanding to where you are happy.
Paint the entire grill with an acid etch primer, available at an automotive paint store. It even comes in a rattle can for small projects. That way, you don't have to worry about the plastic chrome or satin finish. It forms and adheres to the chrome finish.
You then just paint as normal, following up with a couple coats of clear coat. You are then finished. Another work of art. The operative word here, is work.
