LoL... if that emblem flies off going down the highway, I don't think it would be too dangerous...I sense a bit of sarcasm. But I seriously am concerned and appreciate any feedback and outside opinions. I want to make this work without drilling holes if possible, but I am fully prepared to alter my plans if neccessary :)

 

If you do have to use screws you can dress them up with chrome plastic caps. I had them on my F150 visor,, Im sure you can find a set to paint as well if you go that route!

The one on my panel is a one piece rolled stainless steel visor. It came in primer and I painted it to match my car.

There are no screws or bolts holding it on. It secures under the glass on each side and there are two blocks that hold it to the glass with double- sided tape or 3M glass glue. It was tested by factory to 110MPH and I have had it up to 90MPH.

You do need to install wiper blades an inch shorter than factory to clear the blocks.

First time I secured it the 3M glass glue broke loose. I had driven it 20 miles after gluing when a semi screamed by at probably 70MPH and it broke loose.
I didn't give it enough time to dry and adhere. I have driven it many miles without the blocks secured and it seems OK, although it will flutter at speed, especially at speed. The blocks are now secured with 3M tape.

I am 70 and I remember the dark green or blue see-through sunvisors mentioned on this forum. They had a fairly tough metal frame and were bolted on.

Very early stages of my visor on my HHR/Buick Super 8.

 

I had a Lund visor on my 1985 S-10 that had 6 Lag bolts to secure it, & little chrome caps to finish it..

It looked cool, but with any Visor, do expect a mpg drop due to the visor catching Big wind.

 

Yes that is the major drag about visors...they have a negative impact on your coefficient of drag...lol Such is the price of styling I guess. I just hope it doesn't kill my gas mileage. I am designing it to hug the windshield as tightly as possible (a smaller parachute) for this very reason. Hoping for the best...preparing for the worst :)

My visor has plenty of space between glass and car roof so a lot of the wind just sails through. I suppose there is some drag but IMHO it isn't bad enough to affect my mileage that much.

I always thought if I left my tailgate down on my S-10 it would get better mileage. Not - according to those dingbats on Myth Busters. They also proved that driving with your windows down did not affect mileage. The picture below shows some of the air flow space.
