Mike
I didn't work in the area that installed the glass on the boatails. I don't remembering hearing about the rear glass issue, but I am asking some of my working friends about it. I would like to know too.
When (if) my ship comes in a Boattail would be near the top of my list. Of course a low mileage HHR Panel SS would be on the very top.

They both would be Epic cars to own Boydie. I would add to that list a 1970 Chevelle SS 454 Convertible in Medium Blue metallic with white top, white interior and of course White Stripes! We can't forget the White Stripes... A seven nation army couldn't hold them back :)

Not so much for inspiration Ben, but more of a "What the heck is that?", feast your eyes on the rarely seen 1948 Buick-Timbs Streamliner.
Yes it's rear engined, with a straight 8 and Hydromatic Drive.

It may be a little bit strange looking but it was still very progressive and forward thinking for it's time. That is possibly one of, if not the earliest examples of cab forward design in an American Automobile.

Cab forward design goes farther back than you might think, the Stout Scarab built in small quantities from 1932-1946 was not only a cab forward design, but the progenitor of the minivan.
This is a '36 powered by a rear mounted 95hp Ford V-8, featuring swiveling captain's chairs, built in tables, and fully unitized construction. I've always thought these things are as cool as all get out.
