You should mount the release switch inside the gas filler door...

so, how will the release switch work if you mount it under the spoiler?
or am i misunderstanding what you're intending on doing?

The spoiler has a notch for where the wiper squirter goes, but my squirter is shaved, figured I'd put a button there instead. I'm definitely not installing it in the fuel door, wanna keep potential ignition sources away from the gas tank. But hey, I'll see what happens, if it doesn't work out I'll find somewheres else

Yeah, that was my original plan, but you know those go I'm thinkin about what A&P mentioned, and put the autoloc invisible switch in the spoiler.

How about a motion sensor under the bumper? Wave your foot under the bumper and it pops the hatch.

Sounds cool, but a cat or small dog, racoon, possum, skunk or you name it, passing under it could do the same..

Wouldn't that pop the hatch as soon as the car started moving? Before the auto-locks engaged?

Aim is critical, a shroud around the sensor to narrow the range to a small (roughly one inch) area that you would sweep with your foot.

A little more research into the wiring, I believe it could be tied in with the park circuit so the hatch cannot be opened unless the trans is in park, and a timer so it's only active for a short time after unlocking the car.

No, not the easiest solution, but definitely cool.

BTW, I do industrial controls for a living, so some of this stuff seems simple to me.

Back in the day, when we shaved handles (before "kits" were available), we would mount a magnetic 'contact' inside the glass. Then, using a magnet on our keychain...just touch the glass in the right spot to close the contact. Pop goes the door latch.
