Just curious, how was the 'shave' done?

Did they cut out the license plate area and fill it in, or just cover it up?

Yeah, I got a few ideas goin on right now, just gotta figure out the most practical / reliable solution. And yeah Mongo, I'm an instrumentation technician for Shell, so I can handle it , but I get what you're sayin. As for the shave, it's just a filler piece, but was done professionally. The body work is almost perfect, and the welds look good too. I did get a shaved hatch for less than a stock one, so I'm not complaining

Nice. That's a pretty neat job, compound curve in that area.

Yeah, probly ran it through the ol English wheel a few times. It contours great with minimal body filler

Pretty sure I've seen this "Hands Free" concept promoted by Ford on their new grocery getters.

I know this is an old thread but just wanted to chime in. I just got my hatch shaved and it looks awesome. I'm really happy with the results.

My main motivation for doing it is to add advertizing real estate - the license plate really limits options.

The fabricator that did the mods simply relocated the stock hatch release and extending the wiring and relocated underneath the bumper.

I have a couple of details to work out but they shouldn't be terrible - that is 1) lighting for the license plate and 2) a popper for the hatch - it only just opens.
