Trick to Hide Hairline Bumper Scratches for Black HHRs
Last Christmas, on a trip from NY to FL, I had a semi truck retread section fly up and hit my bumper (this adds some validity to you guys with the Colgan bras). Anyway, it the steel belts from the tire section put hairline scratches in the bumper, almost looking like a cat's scratch. I buffed it out with polishing compound, but some of them didn't come out. The scratches were too small to touch up, because it would only look worse with touch up paint. After washing the car, I tried some Kiwi Black shoe polish on the area. It didn't perform a miracle, but it certainly toned down the white hairlines to the extent that only I know that the scratches are there. I had to point them out to my wife for her to see them. I overlayed it with a good Meguiar's wax. Not sure if it will last, but it's a good interum solution to a total bumper repaint.

I use a Turtle Wax Black color wax that comes with a hard wax stick, probably about the same stuff as shoe wax but thicker. It reminds me of the hard wax shoe repair guys used to use. (remember those guys?) It's meant for the same purpose......
It would be a bytch to paint over if an actual spray touch up was ever to be done, but the idea is to avoid that and come up with something that looks good. Nice find!
