Photos from Laguna Seca Historic Races

Those of us that are old enough, remember seeing these race when they were new. Fun to see that 800 HP Chevy leading the race with the two Porsches in pursuit.

Great pics. They were talking about the event a few weeks ago on F1 racing.

those are great shots.
Little story(I'll try to be brief)
in 1992 I went to work for a friend of mine...he happened to own the legendary #11

#11 is a 1 of 10 Motorsport Blue US model 1980 BMW M1's
it came with quite a few options, was commissioned through Hardy and Beck, and brought over in 1982.

more info on these extraordinary automobiles:

http://www.diseno-art.com/encycloped...rs/bmw_m1.html
After years of ownership, he decided to retire, and sell the car. Being the internet junky I am, he asked me to help him(for a small fee, of course).

2 years ago... a fellow came out from Florida to the Historic races at Laguna Seca, and stopped by my friend's place to inspect the M1.

he purchased the car on the spot, drove it to the historic races, and was essentially begged for 2 days by BMW to showcase the car. He ended up doing 1 parade lap before heading east to Florida.

what did I get for my "fee"???

enough cash to buy and build my race truck!

I would love to go back to laguna to see the classics some day....
great pics...thanks for sharing...and for listening to my thread hijack!

Understand I really like the Monza's and their history. I saw them race at Road Atlanta, back in the day. But...

It's the 935's that are packing the 800 HP. Monza's started life with about 570, and saw a maximum output of 625 HP. The turbo 935's were mind blowing.

FYI, at the Historics, Epsman (Dekon Monza) only led the first two laps. He chased French's 935 for the remaining 8 laps.

Yeah, I thought it was at least 4 laps, but you are likely right, and if you saw it I am sure you would agree that he accelerated harder than the Porsches. Many of the small block Chevrolets, even in "A" Sedans and older Corvettes are pushing 800 WHp, as that is amazingly easy to achieve these days, and is of course more than they had as originally raced. Like I said, it was fun seeing him lead, and I conveniently did not mention he didn't win!

There is no denying that the Monza SOUNDED great. While the turbo 6 just does not quite make the hair on your neck stand up.
