Unhappy 06 failed emmissions, Please Help!

So here is the story at the Inspection Station;

The guy comes out of the garage and said "hey this is a 1st for me, I hooked your car up and the computer says the car isn't running.

So he can't pass me, I have also noticed that the on board display is stuck at " average speed 21 mph" and my fuel rate is "economy 23.4 mpg"

could my computer be going or does anybody have had this happen?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Brian

I only seen that once and it was the PCM (or ECU) heating up unusually. I disconnected the battery, waited a few minutes, and reconnected and it fixed itself. Of course it was a 2002 car, but it is a thought.

Check your Lighter fuse, it powers your obd2 plug for your reader/scanner.

Your display is normal - read average speed/not current speed. Sounds like an problem with communication between the garage's computer and the car's on board diagnostics (OBD) computer. You may need to go to another garage or the dealer to see what the issue is.

06's are covered under a special policy for no OBD communication. Take it to a dealer for a free fix. Call them first to make sure they know about it.

thanks for all the replies so far fellas...

I checked the fuses 29-30-33 lighter, power source, emissions and they are all fine... I was hoping a fuse would of done it.

Looks like a call to the chevy dealer tomorrow.

thanks for all the needed information guys.

please, if somebody has anything else to provide... please do!

thanks again,
Brian

So this only effects the 2.2. 2.4's shouldn't have this problem. Different OBD system used between the 2 engines or sounds more like a difference in software/firmware.

Yeah, I got a letter in the mail a few months back about this. Told me not to take it in unless I live in a state where it's required though.

My question Brad, what if I move to a state that does require it? Will GM still honor the fix even after a few years?
