Hey All,

First time posting here. I have got the 07 HHR 2.2L with 212,xxx miles and my trans i believe decided to take a crap. I got used one from the junk yard from an 06 with 66,413 miles on it with torque converter. I plan on replacing the motor and trans mounts, the axle output shaft seals, rear main seal, trans filter and gasket. Is there anything else I should be concerned about replacing maybe the shift solenoids? part sites you recommend, part numbers etc. Thanks in advance

long story short on what happened - was on the highway cruising about 70-75ish heard a thud and the car jerked a little and seemed like it was in a lower gear when I let off the gas pedal, I was able to limp it to a gas station and park it, unfortunately the car will not go into reverse but will move under its own power in drive.

 

You can do what you say and see what you get or do the electronics as well. It's your choice, your gamble or not.

 

That is very low mileage for a trans to fail, even if it was abused. Did you get a professional opinion? Was the CEL on? Did you look at the timing chain?

 

Remove the driver’s side cover and change the shift solenoids

It’s much easier while the transmission is out of the car

 

what are the electronics you are referring to?



donbrew - forgive me I'm not the smartest when it comes to transmission, I'm not sure what you mean by the cell. I have not taken anything apart as of yet, that is going to be this weekend. the few transmission shops I've called want a 250 diag fee, I don't have a trailer readily available to take it anywhere as well as a vehicle to tow it unfortunately.

I did end up getting the shift solenoids.

I do have a check engine light on but was for evap issues that's another issue in itself but I also have not checked it since It broke down

So, you know that many codes affect the TCM and that many inhibit other OBD tests that can affect shift points, and are satisfied that you can diagnose a bad transmission. It is your money, hope it cures the problem. Ignore codes at your own peril. It is never safe to assume that there are no new codes.
Most 4t45 transmissions last for 500-700K, they are basically bullet proof.

 

I was able to make it down to work on the car over the weekend, my buddy had already tore the front end apart by the time I got there. no I cannot diagnose a bad transmission whatsoever, but I will say I'm glad I bit the bullet and got a used transmission off the rip. there were some pretty hefty chunks in the pan I pulled out. wasn't fun, wasn't easy but its fixed and runs much better.
