08 HHR Parking lights stay on

Hmm...our minds are synched up Lucky, even though I'm in Berln doing simulator training on the Airbus A319-A321 family, my first thought was to recommend a "Lobotomy" too.
Just remember to disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable 5tinkfi5t, over the years we've had a few folks pull the Positive cable...and the results weren't pretty.

I had the same issue this morning.
2011 HHR LT, 54K miles. used, one previous owner, was not a fleet car
Car turned off, Light switch set to "AUTO", but parking lights/dashboard lights would not turn off. Pulled Fuse #69 under hood and they went off, replaced fuse and they came back on. Removed fuse until i drive this afternoon.
IF the relay overheated, I am curious what would make it overheat and how would I prevent that from happening again.
I did one thing different on the way to work today than normal, but am loathe to consider a post hoc ergo prompter hoc argument as 100% valid until proven true:
I ran the defroster on high heat in order to clear the windshield AND dry out to internal AC unit's condensation (my wife likes the AC on high and in Houston's humidity, that causes a LOT of condensation build-up in the the AC which eventually drips/drains outinto the passenger floorboard - i.e., onto her feet). While I was running the defroster, the Daytime Running Lights stopped working. This occurred while I was driving through an intersection and before dawn. I quickly realized the problem and switched the light switch to regular light service.
When I arrived at work, and turned off the headlights, the parking lights would not turn off.
