08 Transmission Problems

I have a 08 LT 2.2 Auto with about 55K miles. I dont have traction control or ABS. The transmission is acting up in different ways. When cold it drives fine, but within a few miles it is very slow to upshift. 1-2 is a little slow, same with 2-3. 3-4 is very slow and when OD engages the engine will rev as high as 1500 rpm before it shifts and then its really slow. Get a little heat into the driveline and when coming to a stop the 1-2 shift is so fast and violent it feels like something is going to break.

I am not getting any codes or warning lights, so I am at a loss as to what is going on. I called my local dealer they said the only thing that would be covered is any part that internally lubrictaed inside the transmission case. This is starting to sound like it could be real expensive if not covered by the powertrain warranty.

any thoughts?

thanks,

Chris

The only time I had similiar trnsmission issues, it was due to low fluid. No dipstick on the HHR to easil check fluid level.

I don't think those codes actually show up, except on a TechII Scanner, they are DTC. The car needs to be connected to the TechII while a technician (who knows what he's doing) goes through a diagnostic procedure. Maybe AAMCO or a large transmission shop could do the diagnostic job. Cheap causes are 1) low ATF level 2) engine overheating situation. I would check my coolant level regularly, if you don't already, and check the garage floor for leaks. After that, we are talking expensive!

I'll say that a low fluid level jumps out as the most likely cause, you're going to need it checked out professionally.

I'm willing to bet my online reputation that this condition is covered by power train. What do I have to lose?

I sure hope what ever the problem is covered by the powertrain warranty. I plan on taking it in early next week. I will post back with the diagnosis and how it gets handled.

Thanks for the responses!

Finally got the HHR to the dealership. Initially diagnosed as a "Max Load Reached" problem, thus fooling the transmission to shift eradicly. Bad news is they cant get to it till next week, and then it will have to have the tranny pulled for a complete teardown and inspection. Good news is it should be covered under the powertrain warranty. I will post a follow up once the repairs are completed.

Interesting, that's a new one, please do keep us posted as to what they find and how they propose to repair it. Things like this add to the database here and can definitely help out folks in the future, just sorry you're the one going through the problems.
