This info was from the code/instruction book that came with the reader. Still wondering if the long running pump @ ignition switch on may have caused it. Think I'm gonna change that relay anyhow, see if that changes the runtime at startup.

There is no P0004 Fuel Volume Regulator Control Circuit High on an HHR.

Here is an off the wall thing to check, it happened to me. Make sure the purge valve is a) hooked up electrically and b) hooked up tube wise. That is the funny looking thing-a-ma-bob mounted on the driver side under the air filter housing with a tube to the fuel rail. I forgot to plug one back in and got some strange fuel pressure code.

All connections on "this funny looking thing-a-ma-bob" are in place, also checked the fuses/relays under the hood, and on inside pass side on the console. As mentioned in another post, most all seem to need seating/reseating. Time will tell..

Thanks all, if it happens again, I'll get a reading with a better code reader, and post finding...Bill

scbill, I was curious since I'd never seen that code so I did some searching. It seems that code is somewhat of an enigma regardless of the type of vehicle it shows up on. I found several statements similiar to this one:
DTC P0004:
If you get this DTC, you may want to try reading the codes using another (if possible) higher quality code reader. Even clear the code and see if the code comes back. This code is not common and sometimes is shown in error due to the design of the code reader (e.g. the code reader function is a secondary function of a tuner device).
FWIW...

Chevy MGR

It's been a little over a month, no code reoccur but...mpg has dropped 2-3 mpg, worse on open road...(aka interstate) Another thing I failed to mention, when you depress the brake to shift from park, you hear the solenoid click, before I reset the cel. it was clicking in all shift positions, clicks now as it is supposed to only in park...What would happen if I disconnected the battery for a time, would it clear the management circuit, and relearn?..Thanks.Bill

Would not hurt anything except maybe your radio presets and clock. Might help.

Update.......MPG back to normal (where it used to be), replaced LF wheel brg assy. RF was replaced before purchased by dealer. Don't know if the brg was the culprit on the MPG. If/when the rear brgs go I'll do both, one goes, the other is close behind. 60K on Mich. salt roads.

Edited to say...Didn't do the battery disconnect thing.
