Thanks for the gift, I thought if the key wasn't programmed then the car wont crank? Whats the point of having a programmable key if you can still drive the car without programming it?

Dead battery, varmints eating wires etc.

Is the security light on the dash flashing?

I just did some more reading, the starter will not crank with a bad key. But the security light should be on or flashing if that is the reason.

Have you done anything with the battery? Unless you have a fully charged battery (12.6V) this is all fruitless.

When you say "the car does nothing", does that mean the dash tell tales do not light? Or just the starter does not turn?

It is fairly easy to check continuity of the fuses, there are 2 tiny pin holes on the top of each one, just the right size for a VOM probe.

Battery is fine, I just put the new one in this morning. Security light comes on with the rest with the lights when the key is turned to the on position but then goes off with the rest of the lights. No flashing.
"the car does nothing" I'm referring to the engine alone. Head lights, brake lights, radio, wipers, seats, gauges ect all come on like they should but the starter does nothing. No clicks, no noise, nothing. I can hear the fuel pump prime when I turn put the key in but that's the only thing I can tell the engine is doing.

OK, then we need to concentrate on the starter system. Start by verifiying 12 V to the starter with a VOM when turning the key. Then check the run/crank fuses and relays for operation and voltage on both sides.

Should be 12V on the big red wire at the starter at all times, to the purple wire only when the key is turned.

Look on page 51 in the wiring pdf. There is more to it than you might think.

Ok I went through the whole fuse box. Everything is getting power. I have a tool call a powerprobe that made this pretty easy to do. I wasn't able to check to see if the starter is getting power when the key is turned but all the fuses and relays are good and its getting power. Based on the testing ive done I think its one of two things. 1) Bad starter - If I test it and its getting 12v when the key is turned then i'll just replace it. or 2) bad ignition module - If I turn the key and it doesn't get any power it has to be coming from here right? Only thing I can think of is the ignition module isn't sending the signal for the relay to engage and turn the starter on, Pretty sure that's what the diagram means.

Guessing this is an automatic transmission ? Have you tried to crank it in neutral or maybe just wiggle the shifter around ?
Just trying to rule out something simple like a neutral safety switch.

By this I'm guessing that you were working alone? If so, how did you test for power at, and functionality of, the crank and run/crank relays?

And very good thought, FMG!

I know you said you checked all fuses; but how about #8, #10, #16 on the BCM inside the cabin.

Many new owners are completely unaware of the second fuse box.
