This I did not do and was unaware of. I'll check this out today.

The power probe checks for voltage at the fuse box, everything had power with the key in the on position. The relays I'm assuming are working. You can hear them engage when the key is turned. plus ive moved them around since they are all the same and nothing.

I tried starting it in neutral and moving the shift around, no luck.

 

One thing to note; when starting you turn the key to "start" and let go of it, the computer times it out if it does not start. Not like a '62 Valiant.

When working on an HHR you have to remember almost all of what we used to call switches are sensors that send signals to the computers.

I am leaning toward "bad starter", but it is easy to check before doing the work.

 

just a thought on your car u know very little on as u bought it this way it may have had some work done before i had a hhr i bought that turns out that it had some motor work and the did not seat the fuse block plugs they have they silver bolts they make a clicking noise when they get close to tight but u need to go more till the bolt stops the car would start some times and not others just what i found and my in put ,,, good luck

 

You can use the Power Probe to power the starter solenoid to check the starter.

 

Checked fuse box on the passenger side. all good and had power. Im currently waiting on jack stands so I can get to the starter. These things are not fat kid friendly under the hood.
