Interesting, the p0371, p0500, p0768, p0568 have never been reported here.

reasonably competent home mechanic lol... and im scratching my head. cleared codes, cleaned MAF, got it to sit idle.... but once you try to press the gas peddle it breaks up and shuts the engine off.
any wild guesses or where to
start would be much appreciated

Never been reported because they don't exist. The only 2 that do exist is P0106 and P0300.
P0106 is for the MAP sensor not the MAF. Either a bad connection, a bad seal or a bad MAP sensor.

These codes have a common issue , wiring! Inspect the connectors for bent pins , corrosion, broken wires, inspect the ground wires, are they clean and tight? Inspect the TCM connector and howsabout the fuse box under the hood, these codes rarely show up, but they are all connected to the computers, via wires!

Erase all codes.
There are too many.
See what ones are predominant and go from there.

This sticky thread from Chevymgr agrees with donbrew. Those are apparently not HHR codes.

They might not be specific to the HHR, might be the code reader. Could be all those loose connections .

Try CatMan’s theory, disconnect the negative cable at the battery for a full 30 minutes, reconnect it and keep an eye on the CEL
