Question 2006 HHR Blower Motor Removal?

OK, I repaired the water leak (it was the Butyl Patch thing). I cant seem to get the Fan motor to run when I connect a direct power supply to it. I could spin it fairly easily when I reached my hand in there after removing the air intake filter so I'm not sure if it is burned out or not? Anyone know if that thing comes out from the bottom or top??

Pulled the relay out and I can see where it got hot enough to discolor the plastic near the prongs for the plug, so I will replace that.

The dash switch will still kick the a/c compressor on on all settings so my thinking is the switch is good?

I guess I just need to see if anyone knows where to get a used fan motor and how to get it out?

Thx!

Usually it is the blower motor resistor ($25-50 depends on why you buy) that got shorted by the water and burns out and not the blower. I'm looking for a thread on that now.
I was able to get a pic of the blower motor area and to the left is the resistor assy that goes bad. You have to remove the panel that covers the area to get under the dash where it is on passenger side ( for those that are unaware of where it is.)

It should work on high even if the blower resistor fails.

I hope it's only your resistor.That's $40.97 plus tax.The blower motor package(motor,fan,and bracket)is $206.03 plus tax.OUCH!Do you have GMPP?

I paid about $24 at auto zone for one for an Impala, dealer wanted about $50 and another parts store wanted $55 and someone else wanted around 35, so prices do vary

I got the resistor out already. Is the one you got for an impala the same as the hhr one? Any way to test the fan while it is in? I tried putting a power supply to it but it didn't do anything?

Thanks!

If your blower works on high speed it has a bad resistor. If it doesn't work on any speeds it's the blower motor but the resistor could be bad too due to water intrusion. When you test for power at the blower motor you should have power on low and medium speeds if the resistor is good.

02' Imapla. no idea if they are the same or not. Never changed one in the HHR (yet) Just looked at my old one and it looks different from the pic I sent you via email. Don't know why I am even keeping that old one. had it since last yr.

I'm sure it needs both cause the thing only worked on high while the fan was making screeching noises and now it won't work at all. I think I will change the resistor and then pull out the old fan (since it doesn't do anything anyway) and see if I can get it working again with some WD40. I did that once with a furnace motor!

Thanks all !
