But the car is worse than it was before. Until they replaced that EPS motor I could cut the engine then start it right back & the power steering would work at least long enough for me to park or make a tight turn. But that doesn't work anymore. I asked them why & never got an answer. Clear as mud to me.

Are you saying it's hard to steer? But there's no power steering message....

Yes. Before, the power steering message came & went but since they worked on it there's no message at all but it's harder to steer than it was before.

I'm really discouraged & guess I'll call the GM corporate office tomorrow & complain. They wrote on the paperwork "Customer refused further diagnostics." No I didn't refuse anything & wrote that above my signature, that I didn't refuse further diagnostics & that they weren't offered. I could tell it made them mad. But what I don't get is if they didn't scan as I was told they would, how do they know that it's the power steering column module? And if all they did was replace the EPS motor & there was nothing wrong with the first one, then why did the power steering message go away & why is the car harder to steer than before? I don't see where it would have made a difference or changed anything if the motor wasn't the problem.

So, did it occur to you to check the fuse?

The Power Steering Control Module PSCM is part of the steering column and is covered on 2006-2007 models separately.

Here are a couple of pertinent documents. There are some others if your mechanic was smart enough to find 14119 he should be able to find more.

Thank you for the attached info. My mechanic hasn't actually checked the car personally yet. I called to tell him about the power steering & he found that bulletin & then the next day had to go into the hospital for unexpected surgery. Yes he is a smart man & a great mechanic for my cars during the past 30 + years. I trust him completely which is more than I can say for the dealership. As for checking the fuse, I don't know how. Have ordered a new one online from Auto Zone & picking it up tomorrow. Don't think I'm ready for a tin foil hat just yet but something about this whole thing with my car & the dealership service feels hinky to me. Like something is off. As a nurse of many years, I learned to trust my instincts.

So taking it to a different GM dealership is out of the question?

I don't know. I filed a complaint with GM & the BBB & got an email this morning from GM saying they've assigned a "senior customer relations" person to my case. He's supposed to call Wednesday. From what I've read the recall covered replacing the entire electrical power steering, including the power steering column module they say is bad. They replaced all parts because apparently it's all linked together. Not sure why they specify the EPS motor only in the warranty extension. Anyhow since the dealership didn't scan my car how can they know what's needed? I want the whole thing replaced as they did in the recall. Probably won't get it but it's worth a try. My car isn't even driveable since they worked on it. Not by me anyhow. I'm not strong enough.

From what I remember there wasn't an actual recall for this in the HHR in the states... Cobalt, yes. HHR, no. Only the extended warranty on the motor.

I think Canada did a recall. But that wouldn't apply.

Well crap. lol Just my luck. Still, I read online somewhere that most dealerships replaced the entire thing, not just the motor. But they must not. This one doesn't anyway. I just looked & found a bunch of recalls for my 2007. Electrical ignition & a few other things. Can I still get those fixed if they haven't been? My son bought the car for me used & I love it & want to take care of it. I don't put many miles at all on it since I've retired so it should last for a long time.

The thing about getting GM to agree to replace all of the EPS system is that I'm leery of taking my car back to that dealership after how they messed it up. There is another Chevrolet dealership across the river, not that far. Maybe if GM agrees to fix it they'll agree to me taking it there.

Thanks!
