2008 cooling fan air direction?

Hey y'all, I'm just wondering which direction is the airflow supposed to be in a 2008 HHR? Because my car was overheating and I opened the hood an thought maybe it was the coolant or something but to my dismay all blades on the fan were completely obliterated! So I went to a pic n pull and all they had there was an 06 cobalt and the guy said the fans were interchangeable. So I took just the blade installed it and she's still overheating. And ideas are welcome thank you.

Air flow is blowing toward the engine. Otherwise you would be sucking the hot air from the engine area and blowing it across the radiator.

As don asked, what happened to the fan blades? They don't just "go away". Something was hitting the blades.

On a different vehicle (not an HHR) I had the plastic mount for the fan motor crack where the motor screwed to it, allowing the motor and fan to wobble, hitting the radiator and breaking off some blades.

Also, more description of the overheating. Is it only overheating at idle? Or when you are moving? What temperatures do you see on the DIC (ignore the inaccurate guage)?

Real overheating will cause the head to warp and other things that cause further overheating. Overheating destroys Dexcool and other anti-freeze additives and oil.
The question is "what do you define as overheating?" Along with "what magic is involved in disappearing things?" AND "does the fan run when the AC compressor is running and/or when the temp hits 219F?"

Without making a sound. Just evaporating.

It seems crazy to me too that I didn't hear any loud clunks or anything of that matter but the blades were all broken off. I see that the original fan had like 5 large blades yet the one I have has several smaller blades. And it's blowing in the right direction. And I can't drive more than 10 or 15 minutes and it doesn't start to cool down. The top radiator hose doesn't feel hot like it should so maybe the thermostat went out,? And it might be time for a coolant flush as well. Any suggestions?

As Steve asked, what is the coolant temperature? Thermostat does not cause overheating.
