2008 HHR 2.2L Heating concern

1st Post! Hope I'm not re-hashing a previous thread. Have 2008 HHR 2.2L automatic w/ 30,000 mi.(bought 3 wks. ago, program car at dealership) This engine really heats up in a hurry! Coolant temp reading goes to almost 200* in about 1 mile or so, no warmup, with outside air temp about 35*F. On a 70 mi. trip operating temp ranges from 194* to about 206*F. Oklahoma summer temps can reach 103*F OAT. As discussed in a previous thread, coolant overflow catch reservior was empty(has been topped off 50/50 water/Dex-cool, coolant level seems to be fine now, no visible leaks). Would I need a trip to dealership to check out cooling system? This quick heat-up and higher than normal running temp has me concerned as summer is quickly approaching. Thanks for any suggestions! John

When Car is cold, like over nite. Before starting remove radiator cap and see if the radiator is full. Having a low coolant overflow catch reservior says the coolant went somewhere!! Just for the h_ _l of it CK the radiator when cold to see if full.......

Your car is just fine. There is a thread already out there about this already. The normal temp should be about 200 give or take a few degrees. My car will heat up from 60* to 200* in about 3 or 4 minutes. In the summer mine stays about the same temp also.

During cold days, if you'll play with the heater controls, you'll se that when the heater temp in up high you'll run about 206,but when you turn temp back full cold it goes back to about 195.Thought I was seeing things at first, but played with this and its consistant.I guess the fuel curves are tied into it smewhere, that way at full heat the heater doesn't try to cool the eng down( and insure theres plenty of heat for passengers),After changing the oil this summer found that the fan never kicked on once while idling in the shop, very efficient cooling system. And you'll notice at a red light that heat is down(temp too) untill you drive off again. This car doesn't hold alot of water.
