2008 HHR LT dead in driveway

Ok here it goes. My sister in law has an HHR 2.2 she was at her brothers house earlier today and her car would not start and the key would not come out of the ignition. My brother in law got her car started and got it home. Everything seemed to be ok. A few hours later they decided to go out. Of course they took her car they made it to the end of the driveway and her car died. The key will not come out of the switch, there is no power in the car what so ever. They charged the battery with no change. He said right before the car died it flashed the security light on the dashed and then lights out. It said in the owners manual to press the unlock button on the remote to reset the system. All that done was made the lights come on around the radio.

Her HHR is the 2.2, 83400 miles

The key won't come out because the battery is dead. put jumpers on let charge 5min. or so then key will come out. If you want to get key out in the owners manual under column lock release (page 2-23 in 06 owners manual) it tells how to remove key.

Even with jumpers on no power to car ? 60amp fuse bad from jump start.
battery must be shorted or one of main fuses is bad. When using jumpers be very sure you are using the right ter. on under hood jump points

If car has no power at all shifter interlock system will not let key turn to lock. see in manual as above how to remove key

Good suggestion but the OP stated it won't start. Don't think they can get it to the auto parts store. And if it ain't running they can't check the charging system.

And, be sure to connect correctly when jump starting. Read the manual the HHR is different from "dad's car".

Had those exact same symptoms. Ignition Key Cylinder.

Dealer Service confirmed it and replaced it. No problems since.

LPO is spot on here.

Cheers
