But it never happened.
The problem now is to help the OP get his money back. Good records (such as receipts) and an expert witness in court would probably do the job. The threat of such would normally be sufficient. Stopping a check in time would be more than justified, in my opinion.

I agree - since the chain also drives the balance shafts and there is limited clearance in there, I really expect there would be major damage, as well as the engine running rough as all get out. PM me your email addy and I will send you a pdf of the 2.0 engine that covers the cooling/balance chain and the timing chain etc. on page 175.

Obviously if the fans do not come on and car is not moving and its warm out car will overheat?

I am this ( > < ) close to closing this thread - way too much bad advice, and the whole story is starting to sound unbelievable, with the OP being non-responsive to questions.

I feel that the OP is honest. The rough and tumble of this thread may have made him uncomfortable. I hope he will jump back in, and we can all learn something about diagnosing car problems.
I for one am very interested in how the overheating problem is resolved.

I disagree.
My understanding is that vehicle was still being driven, and temperature gradually approached 220 F after some 20 mi on the highway. The overheating was due to something besides the fan, because the fan normally does not turn on for highway driving.
