2008 HHR SS Quality Controll Problems
#51
hmmmmm.... i like the style/package of the HHR very much. I am glad i never bought one tho. Reading some of these problems just turn me off a potential purchase. My opinion has nothing to do with '' support north american economy''......it has to do with buying a product and having faith it wont nickle and dime me . Just recently, the 2010 chevy equinox was introduced at the Detroit auto show. It looks fantastic inside and out...but then i start thinking of past GM vehicles with crappy brakes, body leaks, poor electrical problems, etc...and maybe i think a 2004 toyota rav4 would be far less troublesome. I hope the $25 billion loan buys gm a bunch of toyota/honda engineers.
There was a time they had a big lead but not anymore. They have come down while GM and Ford have improved. None are perfect yet but for the most I have had mostly trouble free GM products. the most serious problems have been two water pumps on a pair of 1997 GM vehicles with high miles.
You will find a thread started that most of the HHR owners have had near perfect service or very minor ones.
Fewe people start threads to say how good a car is. Most only complain if something goes wrong. There are more silent owners than problem owners.
Our Dealer people here can attect to that. It is not like the old days.

hey Chooch - If you read virtually any other auto thread, you will see plenty of problems listed for ANY brand. When my neighbor's expensive and very nice Acura's transmission blew at 110k miles I thought the mechanic might be cheating him for a $5000 repair. Turns out it is very typical for a code to display when a valve body fails, and rebuilding the trans at CA labor rates costs just as much as a new or reman warrantied unit. There are many many posts about failed Acura transmissions. Meanwhile we had 190,000 trouble-free (seriously) miles out of our 1996 Blazer (that went down Baja and back) and most all of our other Chevrolets. (Another Blazer had coolant related failures, but GM made good on it).
In fact there are literally thousands of posts about Acura quality problems, yet most of us "assume" they are "perfect" right? here's an example:
"After reading this message board regarding Acura Cl transmissions, I feel lucky. I am in the process of replacing my transmission for only the 3rd time.! The first transmission failed at 39K and the second 110K. Most of us have a lot of money tied up in these vehicles and to just dump them is criminal on the part of Acura. If they will not replace these defective transmissions regardless of mileage, with a non defective transmission, then something needs to be done. Since large corporations like Honda/Acura are difficult to get to first base with, perhaps a few well placed bumper stickers to the effect.. DONT BUY ACURA OR HONDA AUTOMOBILES, UNLESS YOU WANT TO BUY A TRANSMISSION EVERY YEAR. OR SOMETHING THAT WILL GET SOMEONES ATTENTION might be one tactic to get them to fix our cars. Maybe periodic picketing of dealerships that refuse to replace these transmissions. ......... What Acura was hoping is that no one would realize that so many people were having this problem and that we would just fade into the woodwork. This 3rd transmission having to be replaced is making me just livid now that I know how dishonest Acura is about their cars."

did you ever get any documentation for the vacuum booster? I would dearly love to take it to my dealer. On the 5th or 6th try the service manage still denies any new fixes. Leaving the car is not an option. My current thought is to sell it and purchase a new Honda Fit Sport. Not the esxtreme go but one hellva lot better service.

never got the numbers or other information, this is getting frustrating. If you have them please send them to me at my home email so I won't have to be chasing down all of these web sites and postings. My home email is: a32766@gmail.com. Thanks in advance.
