2008 HHR water on floor solved!
Mystery solved!
My 08 HHR SS has been getting water under the drivers floor carpeting, like an inch deep soaking the carpet. Dealer was not able to figure it out. So, took matters into my own hands. Pulled up the carpet, got in it and had my son spray down the car while I looked inside. After about 5 minutes I saw water coming out of this big black plastic plug down near where the hood release is, trickling onto the floor. After poking around some more I found the the water was entering the car at the "A" pillar near the upper front door hinge at the rubber grommet that holds the wire loom for the door. It would only leak in when the door was closed. It put just enough sideways pressure on the grommet thing at the A pillar and water would just pour in. I also notice that the cavity near the hood relase has no drain holes of anysort, so any water that gets in there can only go into the drivers floor. Taking it back to the dealer and let them dry it out or replace the carpet and let them figure out how to seal things up.
If you have this problem, this could be your answer.

I hope they can get it fixed for you. I had my 09 back to the dealer twice for the same problem. The first time they sealed around the wire grommet you refer to and replaced the carpet. There was so much water in the car it came above the carpet.
The second time they sealed around the plug by the hood release. It still had a small leak the last time it rained. I couldn't tell where it was coming in. I have sprayed and sprayed and can't make it leak. I told the dealer I didn't think sealing that plug was solving the real problem. I am curious what your dealer tells you.

My dealer took it to the "waterdoctor" Check this link. http://www.waterdoctors.com/ They resealed the area where the wires come through the "A" pillar for the door and repositioned the sunroof drain. I am totally satisfied.
All fixed great, dealer installed new carpeting. Still dry after lots of rain.
