2008 SS No Start
My SS has around 31,500 miles on it and I've had the car for two years and a week now (factory ordered). This morning I go to unlock the car and it will not unlock with the key fob. I go back in the house and get the 2nd key fob and have the same problem. I unlock the car the old fashioned way and notice I have no dome light. I attempt to crank the car and it is completely dead and makes no attempt to turn over. I was already late for work and grabbed the wife's car and didn't attempt to jump the SS.
One thing was very odd and something I have never seen. The needle for my tachometer was not at zero and instead was pointing straight down. Has anyone ever seen that?
I always leave my lights in the automatic position so I didn't leave them on. I drove the car on Saturday for a short trip 45 minutes away and it performed flawlessly. On Sunday I drove the car in town to run errands for three short trips of less than a mile each. Again, no problem. The car sat in the garage on Monday and today is Tuesday and its dead. My question is, are the battery's in our cars really not very good? It would seem I should get more than 2 years out of a battery.
I have to take a business trip on Wednesday 3.5 hours away. I'm not sure if I should just jump the SS and all will be well, if I should replace the battery, or if I should talk to my service manager and see if there is a larger problem? Any thoughts?
