I had the same problem as the original post (flattened o-ring gasket on outlet pipe, at thermostat housing ). It's quite a difficult repair, and I nearly threw the towel in, but here are links to the parts...
2008 HHR 2.4L
$9 outlet pipe O-ring (dealership was asking $25, GM part 90537379) You need 2, one for each end of the hard line between water pump and thermostat)
$7 Felpro 36122 round thermostat housing gasket is good (dealer wanted $30 for GM part 90537471)
$34 ACDelco 131-158 thermostat (dealership was asking $80, GM part 122622410)

Lol. Seriously??? Shops will get their money one way or another. You haven't lived too long if you don't know that. Labor costs will go up if you always have the new part to give to the auto shop. Not everyone does what you think they do.

A rant is good for the wallet. Save your money invest in some tools.
If you’re not handy , find a good friend who knows cars or a good mechanic. Dealerships just want your money.
they quoted time for replacing the water pump involved replacing the balance shaft chain and then the timing chain, and then separate time for the oil pump cover. 17 hours in total, ridiculous!
