2010 Chevy hhr
2010 Chevy hhr lt 2.4l.We are stumped the car starts but dies immediately,We've changed MAF,spark plugs, vent valve solenoid, we've checked hoses, fuel injectors, fuel pump those were all fine, before she made her last trip three weeks ago the check engine light was on all evap codes and when I would gass up it would take about three to four cranks to get restarted and it was jerky and stalling until the gas was ran through it I guess at this point we don't know what else to do and the guy who looked at it says charcoal canister might be it but we've spent a lot already so sort of want to get opinions from other Chevy owners see what I can do

Is the CEL on now? And if so could you please post the codes here.
I’m going to say , it’s hard to determine the problem after a grocery list of parts are deemed to be good.
what’s the battery condition? Static voltage? Load test?
during all the checking, any loose or broken ground wires?
fuel pump is good, but what was the pump pressure reading and it’s leak down time?
another tell is the mileage and any recent repairs done , like timing chain?

The battery is at 50 percentage as of right now we can't get it to charge higher,I'm not sure of the leak down time the guy who helped didn't tell us just told us it was good as for codes I'll ask hubby when he gets home I just know they were all evap,

Pressure should be 55 to 60 psi and leak down no more then 5 psi over a 5 minute period, just to check.
Purge valve is a good guess but I wouldn’t want you to throw parts at it , however it can be tested, it is normally closed do you should not be able to blow air through it in either direction, it’s up on the driver’s side of the engine by the fuse box.
That thingy with the single mounting bolt. Get a real GM AC Delco replacement if you can blow air through yours. I’ve experienced early failures of after market cheap off shore , junk

Usually indicates a bad EVAP purge valve , which you already replaced. Did you get any notification that the gas cap is loose?
I would replace that also.
Now as noted the HHR will still run with this code. Hmmm.

Again that purge solenoid valve under the hood. Or fuel tank pressure valve , or EVAP tank

Possible electrical connections , but the engine should still run

This one is a great indicator of why the engine won’t run, the IAC isn’t working , on an HHR the IAC is in the MAF sensor, so if the MAF didn’t get plugged back in , the HHR will not run properly, so ensure the connection is firm and fully connected.

I think Oldblue meant "vent valve" not "purge valve". Regardless, it is suspect in all of the codes cited.
You might check fuse #33 under hood since it controls the IAT/MAF and some of the EVAP vent.
Even if you replaced the vent valve the seal between it and the charcoal canister is usually bad. The wires to it can get fried, the connector can be loose.
If a battery won't charge it is bad.
I would also look at the EVAP tube under the car in front of the driver rear wheel, could be rusted through.

You need to see if the canister is OK and if not you likely have pellets in the lines and will make the new valve fail in short order. You likely need a new canister and blow out the lines with shop air.
