Ok I bought this hhr Nov.4th 2011 with 39450 miles I have not had a problem at all. works well then yesterday I come out from the doctors office and it was traffic time so I had to cross two lanes of traffic and go left. Well I had to hit it kinda hard to get across the lanes got going down the road up to about 40 then the tranny starts shifting up and down almost sounded like it was grinding also felt like the right rear brakes were applying along with the front right. at the same time the odometer is swinging zero to 120 and the traction control light comes on on the dash I slowed down to about 5mph and the grinding and braking stopped. and the dic says service esc. So today I went to the Chevrolet dealer that I bought it from to find out it is out of warranty but there might be a chance that it could be drive train. I figured a speed sensor or abs deal. Anyhow they said they had to update an abs package on the puter and that was probably the cause. They said no charge and off I went hopefully no more problems.
Thats how I found this site I was searching for tsb's and info about this problem it scared me when I read about the person losing there brakes.
Hopefully they got it fixed and no more surprises,

We are having the same problems with our 2010 HHR. The first time was last year and the dealer updated the software. This year it started again, and because it does not store any codes, they don't have a clue whats going on. Very hard to control while on the interstate and it does this unexpectedly. Our HHR has been in 3 times now and all they can say is to drive it until it does it again, then bring it in. We did that once, and the dealer didn't have the time to look at it.

And welcome to the forum.
So far to date I have had no recurrence of this problem.So for now anyhow all is well.
Maybe try another dealer? Hope you can get it fixed to your satisfaction. Good luck,
