I HAVE A 2010 HHR 2.2 LT AND I AM HAVING A INTERMITTENT START ISSUE IN WHICH THE CAR WILL NOT START UNTIL THE AMBER ENGINE ICON ILLUMINATES ON THE DASH. . I HAVE WAITED 10 MINUTES BEFORE IT COULD BE CRANKED. THE CAR WAS JUST RECENTLY SERVICED AT A GM DEALER FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO. I HAVE INCLUDED A VIDEO OF ABOVE PROBLEM AT 4:35 SECONDS IT WILL START .

First question: has the engine check light come on? If so, what is the code that was downloaded? Without the code, any advice would be a total guess.

Could also be related to shoddy workmanship on the recall. I would try that first if this started very soon after the work was done.

The check engine light doesn't illuminate and will not pull any codes. When I first turn ignition switch to

start; nothing happens (fuel pump doesn't energize and the passenger side airbag on/off light on dash does not light up) and if you let it sit there and wait for it eventually the car will "come to life" you will hear the hum of the fuel pump and the amber engine icon illuminates she will fire right up.

 

Probably the switch or wires near the switch. How soon after the recall work did it start?

 

He said two months ago - so I wouldn't suspect the switch right off the bat. Here's a great video on diagnosing a no crank/no start issue on a Chev truck that seems to be pretty good at showing how to check it from the switch all the way down thru the relays to the starter itself -

 

There is the start/crank relay. You could check it for operation and if it is getting energized when the key is turned.
