2010 SS...Noise (fan?) in front end after engine's turned off.

I have a 2010 SS that has been very dependable since I purchased it in June of 2010. I am having an issue over the past couple weeks where (typically after shorter drives, 5 to 10 minutes) after I park and turn the engine off, it sounds like a fan (for lack of a better word) in the front end continues to run. It's relatively loud and last's for several minutes before is shuts off. I'm wondering if it's a service/maintenance type issue like maybe the coolant needs change/flushed, or if it could be something more serious. Any imput would MUCH appreciated.

Its the cooling fan continuing to run, check your coolant level to make sure you're not running low, have you noticed an elevated reading on the temperature gauge or DIC?

Yes, I have noticed an elevated reading on the temp gauage, for example from time to time when i'm stopped at a red light. It could be as simple as coolant level being low and needing some added? How/why would coolant level become low?

Evaporation losses or a leak will cause the coolant level to drop, even though the system is fairly well closed you do lose some to evaporation over time. A more probable cause is a leak around a hose connection, or in the worse case scenario, a blown head gasket.

Let the vehicle cool down and check the coolant level, also look underneath for any coolant puddles, pull your dipstick and look at the engine oil for milkiness or any water droplets on the dipstick itself.

Its normal for the engine temperature to climb at traffic lights due to the loss of the "ram air effect" through the radiator, when you start out again the temperature should drop back down.

Thanks, I'll check the coolant and oil tonight, haven't noticed any puddles in the driveway. It does have high miles (35k), hopefully it's just low and adding will resolve.

Also, from the factory they will only fill to the max line exactly. To me they should add a little over the line, so that when you buy a new car you aren't scratching your head saying "what's wrong here, I just bought this car".
