Yes please do! he doesn't know they are actuators , well Ford I believe calls them phasers!
But Capt Kirk and Spock aren't working on your ride with Scotty here
He may mean it needs a timing chain but that would be s whole different set of circumstances !

Oh Lord, get it away from that "So Called" mechanic before he manages to compound the damage that's already been done.

This doesn't bode well Tabbie, but get a second opinion from a reputable technician or a good GM dealership in your area.

But be prepared for unpleasant news and the possibility of an engine swap.

P.S. I've MERGED your threads into one in order to avoid duplication/confusion, and to keep things confined to one continuous thread, instead of fragments.

Absolutely get away from that "mechanic" for all the reasons listed above.

Thanks you all... He was recommended by a friend and unfortunately I don't know anyone here... I'm new to the area! I don't have money to keep shelling out... It's paid off so I'm wondering if I should just trade it in ... Just don't want a car payment.

He's an actual mechanic, not a side job... I'm frustrated completely...why would my "cams" need to be replaced?

When he said your catalytic converter was broken it may be your flex pipe is cracked and he is calling it the converter. That could explain the loud "engine sound" as you called it.

I agree with everyone else of course. Find someone who has a little more knowledge about these HHRs. They are a little more quirky than a lot of other cars out there.

As a native Carolinian, with friends and relatives from Boone to Cape Hattaras, that's the entire width of the Tarheel state...mountains to the outer banks.

I'm pretty sure if you PM me with the city you're in, I can get you a list of the "good" mechanics there.
