40lb Rock vs My Oil Pan

Don't go wheelin' in your HHR. Was about 12 miles off the highway outside of Idaho Springs. Went camping back in the woods with a few other salesmen, an SS TrailBlazer and my HHR. Driving out of our campsite, I didn't see the rock and put a hole through my oil pan. Luckily my buddy had OnStar and we were able to call Roadside Assistance. Once the tow truck driver arrived we pushed the HHR out of the woods and onto an undeveloped road, and he towed it back to my dealership free (even though the warranty only allows it to be towed to the nearest dealeship). So what does it take to install a new oil pan? I'm trying to avoid paying for it.

OMG Bryce...that's awful. Tell those guys in the service dept at Medved to cut you some slack or ask them to see the repair manual for the HHR so you can see what it takes. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I'll be by later this week as soon as that dude in parts calls and lets me know the rest of the parts I ordered are in.

What does it take to keep from paying for a new pan?
You work for a dealership, order it and add it to someone else bill.

Ouch! At least you didn't drive until the engine siezed! When I was under the car the pan didn't look like it would be too hard to remove and replace. The low position of the oil and transmission pans has me concerned as we get a lot of rocks on the roads here during the winter. I'm looking at fabbing up a light glide plate to cover both of the pans and provide a little more protection than there currently is.

Can you tell if there is some sort of crossmember or anything blocking the pan? On a FWD, some are easy to get to, some, well not. Good luck.

Don't you work at a dealer?

All you need are the oil pan and a new gasket.

There is no crossmember to remove when pulling the pan.

Hope it helps,

The factory labor time guide pays 2.0 hours labor so it isn't too involved to put a pan on one of these.
