5-speed issues

i just purchased my HHR in Nov. after about 2-2.5 weeks i found when i downshifted from 4th to 3rd, the gears would grind BIG time....and it does it intermitantly upshifting from 3rd to 4th.....well after calling the dealer, they took it in and addressed the 3 gear problem. seems when the trans was assembled, GM missed installing a blocker for the synchro. it eventually took out the synchro, shifter fork (bent), and 3rd gear. (three teeth were ground BAD) however they didn't do a thing for the 4th gear problem. so i called once again and complained like CRAZY.....so now they will be putting in a whole new trans....prolly in a week or so. so has anyone else had this misfortune? (probs with the 5-speed trans) thanks, adam

Mine is shifting great as well. Seems like it's a case of "you get what you pay for", in terms of the labor.

No shifting problems here either and I've had mine nearly 2 years. Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but it sounds like they are addressing the problem. Please keep us updated.

well unfortunately i don't have good news at this point....the dealer (ron marhofer chevrolet in Stow, OH) installed the new transmission....i got it back today, but guess what? NOW THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS F***ED!!!!!! this is begining to be a NIGHTMARE for me....the car only has 1559 miles on it....and it's been at the dealer 2x and needs to go AGAIN!!!! well needless to say, it WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO THIS DEALER EVER AGAIN!!!!! you know i can understand an assembly issue....mass production has thier mistakes from time to time, however, every time ron marhofer chevy has had thier hands on the car, they have made this situation ALOT worse....so PLEASE, be aware of this dealership and thier shiftty service dept. they just made a returning customer into a lost one....consider this a warning to all!!!!!!!!!

a2race. I was thinking about checking out Marhofer Chevy. I'll avoid them on principle now. Was going to check with Tim Lally Chevy also but Chevy in Aurora is closer to me. Sales guy at Serpentini in Aurora gave me a good price on a 08 Cobalt and never had problems with their service dept when I had my Silverado. Going back for HHR price later this month. Hope you get the clutch taken care of.

i would check out Charles chevrolet in garrettsville. i have purchased there before, thier service dept is prolly the best around.....unfortunately its a 45 minute drive, so it's kind of a pain for me, esp. since marhofer is less than 5 minutes from the house.(thats the reason why i chose them, and i have purchased from them before, the sales service is good, but the service dept. makes or breaks it for me, and the previous purchase, i never used their service dept.)

so with all that said, im taking the HHR into Charles tomorrow morning bright and early and the service manager knows the nightmare ive been thru, and is willing to make the best for me and my HHR......Thank GOD!!!!! hopefully this will be the end of my rant...... adam
