Air Bag Light On
#55
In trying to diagnose a similar problem with the passenger airbag light coming on occasionally, I am trying to check the yellow connector under the right kick panel. The instructions in this thread say to first slide the white tab up, then squeeze the yellow plug. I haven't been able to accomplish what should be a simple task. First off the white tab was already up, as shown in the first pic. When I slid it down, a piece of yellow plastic in that area area broke off. Now I can't figure out if it won't come apart because of that small piece of yellow that broke off and if not, where would I squeeze. Also a clarification as to whether the white tab should be slid up, as stated, which is how mine was originally, or slid down. Thank you.

Looks like you pulled the white bit out, so it should just unplug. There might be a yellow tab you need to push in the white part

Post # 15 of this thread says: Slide the white tang up first. Then you can push down on the yellow connector
As I mentioned, the white tab actually slid down, not up. I'm not sure what is meant about pushing down on the yellow connector.

That tiny tang in the white slit?
I think the poster was looking at it from a different angle. Or, meant out not up or down. It has been a long time for me, usually those kind of connectors have a lock locker, usually takes a tiny tool (or the correct tool that GM has in a drawer).

I tried pushing on that tang with an instrument screwdriver, but didn't get it apart. I may have made it more difficult by removing the whole plug from the backing plate for better access, but now it takes one hand to hold it, while pushing on the tang with another and then trying to pull the plug apart with a third? hand. :-)
