Airbag malfunction light

Not every time, but fairly frequently, my front passenger airbag malfunction light comes after I fold the seat forward to the flat position. After I return the seat to it's upright position, sooner or later, the warning light goes away.

Anyone hear of this issue before and have any suggestions on how to remedy it?

Never heard this one before. Have you any warranty left?

Do you have a regular GM Dealership you take it to for servicing? If so, I'd call your Service Manager and talk to him/her.. Explain what's going on, and maybe they will cut you a break.

Sorry about your problem bud. Best of luck,

Do you flip the seat a lot? My guess is somehow the wiring has worn out in it... But beings that it's the airbag I'd really want to get it fixed.

Which indicator comes on? The airbag icon or the passenger presence message?

In the summer months I have it flat most of the time as I fit my windsurfing gear, sails, booms etc on the right side of the car. In the winter I occasionally fold it down so my toddler can see out the front window from his rear car seat.

One variable I haven't tested is if moving the seat all the way forward plays a role in this as well. With the toddler scenario I described, at times I move the seat all the way forward as well because he loves to kick his dirty shoes all over the back of the seat. I was wondering if there is a wiring connection that is loose or something similar that gets out of wack when I fold the seat down and/or slide it forward?

I don't have much faith in the dealer I've gone to in the past regarding cutting me a break. When I went in to have some stuff taken care of right before the bumper to bumper warranty ran out I had to wait several weeks for the parts. They called me when they came in and another service manager told me "it's out of warranty." I had to argue with him for a minute or two saying the parts were ordered before the warranty expired. Finally he grudgingly said, "oh, ok." Real rocket scientist.

I think the X2 dummy light stays on above the radio and then I get a service airbag message on the dash, warning chime etc.

One last thing, I have times, after lowering it forward, pulled the seat back tilt lever and seat folds forward a little more. The problem seems to have occurred without doing that so I guess that does not play a part in this.

Chaffed wire or bad connector is my bet then.

So do you think it's one of the connectors hanging under the seat? Do you know any other locations where the wires are disturbed by seat movement?

Thanks alot all.

I'd have to agree with the line of thought expressed by ChevyMgr, you've probably got a wire chafed under the seat. There is also a possibility of a connector being loose or corroded under the seat, have it checked into A.S.A.P., you don't want an unintended deployment or no deployment at all in the event of an accident.
