Same Thing here. I noticed this right away. Face afire and cold feet and I am not cold natured. I did not think about the Mod although I will now. In my case I did not even have to get out of the car. First cold morning and it happened I thought, aw shucks..a bad actuator. So I stuck my hand under there and felt that blast of heat out of a duct that seemed to be aimed somewhere in front of my knees and thought, The guy who was in charge of aiming the foot vent skipped the part in school where they tell you heat rises....Ha Ha....

 

Funny thing is ... My wife drives an '06 Pontiac Torrent and hers is WORSE. Must be a GM thing ... Kinda like that "New Math" thing... I haven't figured out how to fix hers yet. The vents are shaped different and actually don't even stick out past the side of the console. Go figger ... most of that warm air is heating the inside of the console.

Parts used; two 2 inch gray plastic straight nipples for plastic pipe, one 33 degree black PVC elbow, glue (for plastic pipe but ended up using plastic emblem adhesive instead). Black, gray, and white plastic fittings are not necessarily compliable and will not always fit together.



Left (drivers) nipple shortened with elbow installed and right (passengers) nipple cut at a 45.



Installed: glued into ducts, left seems good, but right one I maybe should have use a black elbow. It’s kind of ugly.





Total cost; $ 10.00 cdn including the glue that I didn’t use. High from glue fumes…No charge

Total time; 10 minutes to find parts,
1 hour to visit with friends in hardware store,
20 minutes to install,
Two hours to get pictures into message.

Some of the design (not just the heater) seems to be engineering student projects - not professional engineering.

 

Adjustable floor heat diverter:

material: 2" x 2" x 10' roof drip edge...$3.29 @ Home Depot

As pictured below:

1.) cut 4" long piece of drip edge & flatten raised edge
2.) mark & cut one side @ 2"
3.) bend uncut side to form a movable/adjustable hinge
4.) remove sharp edges
5.) attach with duct tape

I have one on each side and prefer to keep the right side nearly closed for more heated air to driver side.
