Another water leak, please help.

I will have to run the numbers to see if 93 octane justifys the price difference to get a few more mpg's.
Thanks for the info.
Just ran the numbers:
@ 28 mpg for 1000 miles = 35.7 gal x $3.79 = $135
@ 22 mpg for 1000 miles = 45 gal x $3.59 = $163
if gas is $0.20 more per gallon for 93 octane it wouldbe beneficial to run it. Lesson learned. I will try to run this for a few tanks to see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

Hello all,
I should have posted this a few months ago but time slips away.
The water leak is fixed. After several trips to the Dodge dealer (see previous posts), the service manager finally decided to just pop the window and try with a new seal. Pulling the windshield out broke it which is very common I guess. They had a spare ready and when putting it back in, he noticed there are two seams that are visible without the windhield in that appeared like they were missed at the factory so he sealed the seams up. He also used extra sealant during the install because he new we had a leak. It hasn't leaked since. I am so happy.
On a side note, I have a 2.4 liter and have gotten as bad as 22 mpg and the best is 26 mpg if I baby the heck out of it and drive like an old lady (no offense unless you are in front of me). Does anyone else have the same mileage or has anyone done any mods to improve it to get 30 mpg. I thought I read that this what some were getting and I just can't figure out how.

Accually, with the low mileage on your car, the original owner probally traded it in because of the leak. Since you got the leak taken care of, you got the benefit of a really good deal. Congrats.

Glad they found it, you should be getting beter mileage I'm averageing 25 on 92 with out trying after all I didn't get a SS to go for high mileage, but it does get double what my truck did and is much more fun !!

There has been a lot of discussion on this in other threads, and the consensus seems to be, that for some people, 93 saves them money and/or they like running it because of the perceived extra benefits, while others see no issues whatsoever with the 87 octane. I would suggest trying to run at least 4-6 tankfuls of each, and see what works for you.
I thought for sure I would get better mileage with the 93 octane, since, if I understand it correctly, the spark is advanced some when using 93, but for *me*, I just didn't see the difference.

With the SS you don't really have the option to run the lower octane. At least I haven't tried to run anything but premium. Of course the best I can find in this town is 91 octane.

On the side note.....
Try premium and watch it improve. I'm getting 28-31 MPG, average, in my 2'4L.... 32+ if all highway @ around 55-65 MPH... it goes down above 70 or so. I also added a GMPP intake and Trifecta tune but was seeing comparable numbers, about 27-30, with just the 93 octane alone. You may have to give it a few tanks to get an accurate average, depending on driving style it should increase.
On the main topic.... glad they found the leak and fixed you up. [/QUOTE]
I am purely using the numbers from this person and my personal experience. He is getting 28-31 with 93 octane and I am getting 22 with 87 octane. This is where my numbers came from...
I am going to give it a try and see what happens.
If only the HHR ran like my Challenger, I would love for it to catch something from the Dodges.

I have a buddy with an RT. Have to admit it's a nice car. He usually beats me by a car length or more in the 1/4, but he has had his share of problems. The last Dodge I owned was such a POS I swore I wouldn't go back to a Dodge. Of course I have seen posts on this site from people who feel the same about chevy. BTW I wasn't busting on your RT, just Dodge in general.

no problem with busting on Dodges mroney. All these car companies have issues.
How did you blank the back side windows? I want to do that to mine. I thought about getting vinyl with the tiny holes that you can still see a little bit and putting it on them but I can't find the same color vinyl. Sunburst orange isn't a standard color.

I should get my car back in the next few days. Do you want me to post pics from the inside?
