Question anti rust

Hi Guys

I'm back w a follow up on my post = rust POS HHR. [sorry]

Looking forward to puting the HHR on the road next wk.

We have a dealer thar 's going to install running boards and flaps.

HERE IS THE Q - I called Eastwood and described the conditions we are seeing.

They advised Eastwood "anti Rust part # 06018 Z" A spray wax type protectant.

Has anyone used this "stuff"?

Supplying a link to the product would have been nice.

However, as none of us here has seen what the extent of the rusting is, we really cannot make any sort of an educated comment on the suitability of the product (assuming someone here has had experience with it). Do you have pictures of the rusting areas?

Well it took a while to copy - paste from my laptop. [sometimes I don't suceed]

You know the rust on the bottoms of the doors, paint not sealing at door seams, pinch welds etc.

I think I will try this as a preventive maintance.

In the past I have used wd 40 w good results.

What do ya all think

Just be careful that you don't plug any drain holes, that was always the downfall of places like Ziebart and Rusty Jones, impede drainage and watch the rust begin. I've always had good luck with just plain old motor oil, it penetrates seams and stays around. WD-40 is really nothing more than Kerosene with some extra refining, it eventually evaporates away.

The Eastwood stuff is a rust inhibitor like most others. It works but it in time will still rust. Cars are made of steel and unless it is in a climate controled enviroment it will still happen. Often in places you can not reach or treat.

For the most I have no idea why you have rust unlike anyone else here. I really wonder what is different that caused this. For the rest of us if we just drive our cars and use them up the rust will come at a time and miles we will be trading off anyway.

Check out Por 15, Rust Bullet and other products too as they all do about the same thing and work well on the restoration work I have done. Just wear gloves as it does not come off and has to wear off.

"Well todays report.... The whole underside of the vehicle looks much like a 2 year vehicle should. There was no rust on the pans or pinch welds. "

Just wondering I read your other thread /\ /\ Quote above
Is there rust or not? I don't understand, and I don't want rust either.

I decided against having the dealer undercoat it, wondering if I should reconsider. I'm like the others in 5 years it'll have 100K plus, so I usually don't worry about it. But if it's gunna happen in 2 years I may

OK I didn't want to go over my original posts again as my puter skills suck and I don't have spell check on this puter. I didn't want to piz anyone with another rust post.

However I feel 11s Q. could use a A.

When I looked at the HHR before we bought it from the original owner we discovered paint seperation on the bottom inside lips of the doors. It looked like the water basecoat didn't stick to the primer. Fixed under bumper to bumper fact.war.

Another member has had his HHR to the shop 3 times for rust on same place.
I am just looking for the best protection product. That's about it.

The HHR sat in the garage for 2 weeks and we discovered rust on the floor.
However I could not dertermin where it came from. Looks like under the plastic rockers? That's another story.

thanks KK4

Ahhh now we understand what you are thinking of using it on. Well, the EW Anti Rust should work ok - remembering it is a protectant, not a preventor.

As 843de said, just make sure you don't block/clog any of the drain holes. It sounds similar to the Ziebart spray one could buy - and the Ziebart stuff worked well on my old Mazda, as well as some motorcycles.

I would use an oil-based spray instead of the wax-based. Wax just lays on top, where oil will wick into the seams and pentrate the rust. I like rust-check or similar.
Best way for the doors, and what I will do, is to take off the inner door panels and spray it right in there all along the bottom so it gets between the skin and frame. It might be a little messy for a few days, but its worth it.

We know the drill. What on the doors will not grow at fast rate and adds are you will wear out the car before they become a factor. Most GM and other cars today have this but often it is under a rubber strip and under the door where you can't see it. Out of sight out of mind.

On the chunks I don't know what to tell you as I can't look at your vehicle to see but this is what few if anyone here has ever seen.

My advice is not to get too excited here. I own most of my cars 10-12 years before I trade and even my old Sonoma had similar rust on the 3rd door. I had it 12 years and it did not rust through and the even with the present owner it did not rust through.

I agree it should not even do what it is doing but untill you see 06 HHR's with gaping holes in the door I would not panic too much on this.

Drive it use it up and move on in 12 years is my moto.
