Anti theft / U0073
2006, 94,000 miles.
Somehow I triggered the anti theft. I seldom lock my car, but I had some of my son’s expensive items in there. I unlocked with the key fob, started my car and backed out of the parking spot. The dash was flashing power steering, the anti theft was illuminated….. it shifted really rough. Needed to move where I was. Shut if off restarted and it was fine for 20 yards, then it came back on. Drove very slowly to Napa, about 1/2 mile. Got on my phone for instructions and did the reset. Drove about 1/2 mile and it came on again. Let it sit while I ran in the store. It sat for about 20 minutes. This time when I started, no anti theft, but check engine lite was on, and it drove fine, Drive back to NAPA, used the check engine tool. U0073. Cleared the code. Drove home, 5 mile. Drove fine.
do I need to worry, or pray that this was all a fluke, What should I start checking?

It’s a wiring issue, usually shows up during hot weather, check the circuits mentioned in this

Best part is you don’t have to change any parts at random.

Check the battery. If you lock with the fob then unlock with the key the anti theft is triggered. When the battery dies the ant theft is activated.
Locking with the fob sets the alarm system, the flashing light on the dash.
U0073 could be due to a low battery; if it does not come back don't worry about it.

Pulled the battery, got it checked and it is fine. ………..I’m going to see what circuits I can find to check. I am also going to start using my spare key. Let me know if you have more ideas.
I can not afford a different car, I’m a single older female, that is not afraid to get her hand dirty, . I need to figure this out.

I don’t remember what the read out said. But the battery was above 12.6.
have been using my spare key for the past 12 days, and it has been fine. And then………today it happened again. It is sitting with the battery disconnected. I had to lock it and leave it in a parking lot, Then I thought f@#$& I will have to unload the back seat so I can crawl in back to rebook up the battery and pray is starts.
That was fun, unpacking the car to crawl over to hook up the battery. Set off the alarm, the the lock out was flashing when I started. Turned it off. Locked and unlocked with the fob and started just fine.
went and bought a new battery,…….lets see how long it lasts this time.
