Many have this problem. See here: Water Damaged Bowtie.

I solved my problem by having them painted:

There is no permanent fix. Get a new bowtie and wait for it to happen again.

Yep, mine looks terrible like that too. Bought it brand new and had the vehicle for all of about 12 weeks before it started looking like that.

I plan to paint mine red to match the HHR this summer.

I hope the stuff I CAN'T see on my HHR was designed better and went through better quality control...

If you are under warranty the replacement emblem is covered. The new ones have not had the delamination problem.

I had the same problem on the front and rear of my HHR. I currently have a problem with my wife's 07 'Nox and my 06 Silverado. Cheap laminate. You would think the problem would have been solved by now. You shouldn't have to paint them.

Good to hear that the new ones seem to be better.

I don't know that it is a "cheap laminate" issue as much as a lack of adhesion on the adhesive used to apply these transparent emblems.

It could also be that the emblem was not firmly set in place to begin with and was just sort of slapped on (There is a reason that many adhesives are referred to as "pressure adhesive".

Moisture intrusion was also an issue. This was fixed for the most part in 2008.
